If you consider your life right now, whether it is your career, your current job, or the circumstances surrounding your life, and you determine that you aren't where you want to be or should be, don't get mad, get determined. Decide that it is a time for a new plan. Don't discard your dreams or your goals. Don't let present circumstances or your situation determine how you feel about your ability to make progress and move forward towards completion of the goals you've created. Where you are right now is a reference point in a timeline of your life that is not fixed because you are always moving forward, whether or not that progress is moving along with you at the rate you had hoped it would.
It is natural to want more for your life especially when you've established goals and you established an intention to do something new or different with your career or your life. It is also natural to experience frustration when it seems that places and people do not align with your plans and your goals in the way that you hoped it would. Career development and professional growth is often unpredictable because of these variables and the only thing that you have complete control over is your attitude, your perspective, and your belief in yourself.
When you decide what it is that you want to accomplish be determined to find opportunities that will allow you to reach those goals. Don't allow yourself to depend on one possibility when you are developing an action plan so that you can be adaptive as needed when you begin to implement your plan. Personal and professional development often occurs through a series of carefully planned events and continued progress. Utilize self reflection to determine what strategies are working well for you, which ones need to be discarded, and recognize when it's time to find new opportunities or create amended plans.
To help you be determined, try these steps:
Decide what you want to accomplish
Engage your full attention to the process of self-improvement
Take action and begin moving forward
Expect results both positive and negative as a means of growth
Respond to changing conditions in a proactive manner
Motivate yourself through determination
Invest the time necessary to follow through with your plans
Never give in to frustration or disappointment
Enjoy the process of learning more about yourself and completing your goals
Wishing you the very best,
Dr. J
